  • Passed away on July 25, 2025; she was 85 yrs old

  • She moved to Boston with her children in 1980 from the U.S. Virgin Islands and immediately started working in Boston after being referred by a family member for an entry level job.

  • She worked in the food service industry for many years. She started with technology companies, moved onto financial services, and finally ended her career working for various Longwood area hospitals ending her career at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She took pride in preparing dishes that looked and tasted appetizing and encouraged patients who were struggling with cancer treatments and didn’t feel like eating to actually try something, daily.

  • She believed being a mother was her most important role and when her three grandchildren were born they experienced the same love and care. She enjoyed babysitting them and they travelled to Europe, Canada and Barbados with her.

  • She was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness who served for over 40 years.

  • She was a dressmaker and avid gardener who could get just about anything to grow. She grew an avocado plant in a pot for a few years. Even in her small apartment she was able to grow vegetables and herbs on her balcony for years. She enjoyed cooking especially healthy dishes from the Caribbean and Barbados. Coucou and fish was a favorite dish that we all enjoyed eating as well as when she made her prized coconut sweet bread. We will miss sitting and talking with her about our day, while eating a meal prepared with love and fresh ingredients.

  • She enjoyed travelling with her friends to spiritual conventions and on cruises and also returning home to Barbados every few years to visit family. She believed education was life changing and invested in her children and grandchildren and various extended family members to achieve their educational goals. We are grateful for her.

  • We believe that starting a fund in our mother’s name to support young people’s programs at the Urban farming Institute would align with our mother’s love for gardening and education.
