UFI is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator responsible for recruiting, organizing, training, and supporting volunteers who contribute to the organization’s urban agriculture, community engagement, and educational programming. This role serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers and helps cultivate a welcoming, mission-driven environment that encourages long-term community involvement. They will report to the Volunteer & Gardening Program Manager. This is a 20-hour per week, in person position. The salary range is $20.00 per hour - $24.00 per hour based on experience and background.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Recruit and retain volunteers through outreach, events, partnerships, and community engagement efforts
Coordinate volunteer registration, scheduling, communication, and attendance tracking
Coordinate the volunteer program by working with the Production Team to match individuals and groups to appropriate farm locations; facilitate and oversee work and keep volunteers motivated and cared for.
Partner with the Education Coordinator regarding volunteer groups from schools and youth-based organizations/groups
Partner with the Special Programs Manager and the Marketing, Events & Membership Manager regarding volunteer support for events
Ensure all volunteer engagement events align with the full UFI calendar.
Work with the Volunteer Manager to build thoughtful, ongoing opportunities for feedback, and tabulate data.
Work with Volunteer Manager to design and coordinate volunteer appreciation initiatives and recognition events
Create handouts regarding the volunteer days
Communicate with key contacts of the volunteer group to ensure the best outcome for the volunteer day
Refer volunteers to other UFI programs and initiatives to further community engagement/education opportunities
Track volunteer impact metrics and assist with reporting for grants, organizational evaluations, and development
Represent the organization at community events, volunteer fairs, and outreach opportunities
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience growing food, and an understanding of the urban agriculture movement and food justice strongly preferred.
Experience in volunteerism, program development preferred.
Must be highly organized, have attention to detail and be a self-starter.
Completion of UFI Urban Farmer Training course or similar urban farmer training program preferred
Experience working with diverse populations, peoples with varying physical capabilities, program and farm partners, volunteers of all ages, neighbors, and community members
Resides in or is familiar with locations of our farms – Dorchester, Mattapan or Roxbury - preferred
Comfort with computer/web applications – especially Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Valid driver’s license required
Must be able to work independently and as the member of a team
Must be willing to learn on the job and work closely with the Production Team
Able to work evenings and weekends as needed
Physical Requirements:
This position will require both sitting for periods of time and walking/standing for periods of time.
Requires possible outside work in various weather conditions.
Ability to lift 30-50 lbs.
